Exclusion Rule
PLEASE READ - ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.
The re-entry area is located nearest to the player’s own goal line outside the field of play, near the team’s bench and opposite of the scoring table. However, it is always best to ask the referees before the start of the game for the exact location.
An excluded player shall move to the re-entry area without leaving the water. An excluded player who leaves the water shall be deemed guilty of an offense called Misconduct, in which the player is no longer eligible to participate. On reaching the
re-entry area, the excluded player shall be required to visibly rise to the surface of the water before the player (or a substitute) shall be permitted to re-enter.
The excluded player or a substitute shall be permitted to re-enter the field of play after the earliest occurrence of one of the following:
(a) when 20 seconds of actual play have elapsed, at which time the secretary shall raise the appropriate flag provided that the excluded player has reached the reentry area;
(b) when a goal has been scored;
(c) when the excluded player’s team has retaken possession of the ball during actual play. Once the player has reached the exclusion area, the player may enter the field of play without any signal from the table or the referee.
(d) when the excluded player’s team is awarded a free throw or goal throw, the referee’s signal to award the throw qualifies as the re-entry signal, provided that the excluded player has reached the re-entry area.
Once the excluded player is eligible to re-enter the field of play, the player shall not jump or push off from the side or wall of the pool or field of play, as well as affect the alignment of the goal. Improper re-entry will lead to another exclusion or possibly a penalty shot.
At our workouts the re-entry area is away from the side the ref is standing.

New Years - Club (last one)
Connor: Play aggressive - sometimes you pull out of counter attacks, it is almost like you are afraid of being part of the offense. Play hard, play aggressive.
Josh: You can be a great player - it is up to you. BUT you have to put the time in away from the water.... you have to study the #ing system, think of ways to score, think about the game outside workout. If you only put in half the amount of time you spend on video games you would be such an awesome player.
Jared: Play tough, don't let anyone take that ball from you!!!
Derek: In these next few months work hard on your passing and catching... Doing a great job!!
Joey: Want you to work on swimming with your head down and on your egg beat kick. Don't give up!!

New Years - for Club
Nelson: Egg Beater - you are not doing the kick correctly and need to work do it correctly all the time - it will be harder for a while but without doing the eggbeater kick correctly it will be hard to continue to improve.
Jake: Faster movements - everything from shooting, swimming, making a move to the ball.
Adam: Learn from your mistakes and don't get so down on yourself when you do make a mistake.
Eleanor: From day 1 (Jan 6th) I want to see you step it up - and you are always involved in the offense!! Setting, Driving, Counter Attack, help teammates!!
Ryan: Protecting the ball on the wings and still being able to make the pass.
Tyler: Learn the defensive positioning. Use your speed - esp in this age group!!
David: Playing defense: when to foul - when not to foul - how hard to foul, easy to foul - positioning.
Max: Leeeeeggggsss!!!! This will help every part of your game
Zach: Get to know the game - watch, ask questions!! So in the game you have the confidence to play the game without thinking, but just going out and doing it!!
Skyler: Head up and don't be afraid of the ball or others when they defend you. Don't close your eyes like someone is going to hit you.

New Year
Here are a few more resolutions for the club players:
Hunter: Work your legs hard - by the summer we want you to be able to get up so we can see the top of your suit. Don't hold on the wall - ever!!!!
McCarthy: Use your speed in the game - you are one of our faster swimmers. Every time you swim it is at a 110% or you are not moving at all.
Santana: Work your legs - never let your shoulders go under the water, even when waiting for your turn to shoot the ball. During Leg drills work your legs!
Gabby: Work on your swimming stroke - really stretch and rest your hand out in front for a while before you pull back. By summer I would like to see you one of our faster players.
Fee: Do not turn your head - watch the ball meet your hand - don't close your eyes or turn your head and move your arms. You are getting two things: Work on your outlet passes - you have to get up and make the perfect pass each time and know where to pass the ball.

New Year
Here are a few Resolution's for the club players: (check this blog everyday I will post a few each time) EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW WHAT ALL YOUR TEAMMATES NEED TO WORK ON (so you can help them too).
Steven: Work much harder - do everything with intensity. Be on time!!
Dr Phil: Be one Time!! Listen and think what is should look like in your head or what other players are doing and do it.
Mary: Catch the ball - use your legs to hold your body up, stop most of the speed of the ball at 1st contact. Do not make it a habit to drop the ball each time.
Al: Work on your egg beater - you have to build your legs up so you can catch and shoot the ball.
Trevor: Listen and do what you are told to do.
Emilie: You are very strong, you are very smart, you will be a good player but you have to come to every workout! Attendance!
Keith: Move to the older group - by listening and doing what you are told to do.
THE ENTIRE TEAM:
1. HAND ON THE TOP
2. DO NOT TALK WHEN COACHES ARE TALKING
3. LISTEN AND THINK AND PICTURE WHAT WE ARE TELLING YOU.
4. COMMON SENSE!!

Results from Arizona
The Club won the High School Division -We played two Exhibition Games against all the top players from the Arizona area and won both games. We also won all our 1st round games in the tournament bracket play and played in the Gold Medal Game against Highland High School and came home with the 1st place hardware!!! Congratulations to our Club players a job well done!!!
The Masters won all their bracket games - game 1 and 2 were pretty easy wins then on Sunday am we only won by 1 goal against Sun Devil 1 team (they picked up a ringer and we could not stop him and when we did it was with a double team and the open man took advantage of our defense). In the Gold Game we played a combo team of all stars from Northern California which included 4 different teams and without any of our sets we could not stack up against this team - they were very good!!!
All in all a great weekend (with just a few rain drops) and Eliz Brooks having her birthday shot - it was a fun weekend.
This weekend also served as Carlos's turn up for his tryout for the Men's USA Senior National Team next weekend in San Diego. Good luck Carlos!!!

THANK YOU ROB
Everyone already knows all the work Rob did for the team organizing our group for the Las Vegas Marathon to raise funds for Hawaii. What you don't know about Rob is all the work Rob does because he is just a great person.
This is just from this Arizona Trip:
1. Took Ball and Caps to the tournament.
2. He drove and offered Edwin and Carlos a ride (and had to listen both during the drive out here and back home).
3. Rob always has red vines and everyone knows they can get a few without asking.
4. Rob always has water for the team and brings me a pepsi.
5. During our games he is getting the balls for either the masters or the club team - giving out caps - putting balls and caps away after the games.
6. Always has a positive outlook, always smiling and has a good word for everyone.
Rob also has gotten our team grants and we have purchased Team T-Shirts for everyone and team equipment. When you get a chance Thank Rob for all he does for our team!!!

Boy, what a busy day:
Club played 3 games today - Mesa, Highland and a mixed group of some experienced players along with some beginners, which gave our younger players playing time. We won all 3 games, the 3rd game was played without our 4 top high school players (they were playing with the masters against Denver (Newport) club players played well. Ryan and David were the leaders with the club players - BOTH RYAN AND DAVID were real leaders out there, staying positive and helping our younger players.
Master's played Sun Devil 3 and pretty much had their way with this team. Our second and last game of the day was against Denver usually a very good team but today they must have been missing a few key players and we beat them pretty easily.
Tomorrow the Club (high school) will play a game against local All Stars from different High Schools in Arizona. The masters will play Sun Devil A - if we win this game we will be 1st in our bracket, if we tie we will be 1st in our bracket and if we lose we will be 1st in our bracket (as long as we don't lose by 10 goals). For our final game we will play our good buds from Burlinegame for the Gold.
The sun keep coming out and going back behind the clouds but for the most part it was a nice day!! Tomorrow they said is going to rain all day!!!
Tonight we are off to our annual Mexican dinner - last March it was Mary birthday and she had her birthday shots - this weekend is Eliz's birthday and she will get her birthday shots!!!
We are playing good, learning and most important having a great time!!!!

WORKOUTS SAT AT WHITNEY
MASTERS - WORKOUT WILL BE AT WHITNEY - SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFO.
LV Marathon
Hello all,Please print out this for easy reference for Sunday's Marathon:
Be at the "Expo Group" at 4:00am
Check in with me for keys, lunch, passes, additional instructions
Drive to your designated location when advised
Volunteer's will unload your truck (help if you like, but not required)
Call me once you are on post and set-up
Monitor the radio for the start of the race (projected to start at 6:00)
When the coordinator counts down to zero, push "up" on the clock controller
Unless there is an emergency, do not talk on the radio's
If a runner comes to you and can't finish (not medical issue) call and advise me and they will be picked up
If a runner needs medical attention, also call me and advise what the condition is and medical personnel will respond
When your leg is opened back up to traffic, the volunteers will load your truck back up
The volunteers will also collect, bag and load trash on your truck (help if you like, but not required)
The clocks should be picked back up from the folks who delivered them. If not, call me and I'll advise
Once loaded, drive truck back to "Expo Group" (where you started) and you'll be done!
I'll be sending out a follow-up email to you all soon after the race to get feedback for the organizers on what went well and not so well
I'll have 3 numbers during the event which you can reach me for any questions
1. 813-2263
2. 245-3917
3. 812-0005
We are cutting it very close reference having enough drivers for this event as I've had two cancellations since the last email. I've replaced those two with two of our alternates which leaves very little room for last minute cancellations. Please respond back to me via email to confirm you received this and also to confirm that you are still committed. This is an excellent fund raiser for Team Vegas/Henderson Water Polo. How we conduct ourselves and how well we handle our responsibilities will be a key to whether or not the LV Marathon group will continue to use us for future marathons. As always, thank you for supporting OUR team.Rob Wills813-2263

ASU - High School and Masters (coed)
Just got an email and ASU will not host the coed division during the spring but will move the Master Coed tournament to Dec 8 - 9, 2007 (Sat and Sun).
How many Masters would like to attend?
How many High School players would like to attend?
Not sure on the cost - they have not set the entry fee yet and don't know how many will be going: Figure from $60-80.00 each plus your hotel, food, transportation.
Answer on this blog - and let your teammates know.

Arizona Results
We had some great games this weekend in Arizona. Before giving you the results let's get a little background.
1. Less than 1 month back from our month off - so we were not in the best shape and all games were played in a 30 meter pool and 7 minute quarters.
2. We had two sub. (We picked up a third sub: Paul Watson - he came down and worked out with us about 2 weeks ago).
3. This team had 1 starter from last years team.
The team really played well over all - they played their hearts out did not give up (sometimes the body could not move but the mind was trying to swim). Here are quick recaps of the games this weekend.
1st Game in round play: RSOF this was Steve's (S&R) guy team - they were pretty loaded with top players. We began the game in the sun and the 1st quarter they got a lead that was hard to catch. When Rob was making passes he could not see if he was passing to the white or black. In the 2nd and 3rd quarter we closed the gap playing great defense. In the 4th quarter right as the team was lining up for the sprint someone said "Come we can win - let's start shooting hard and putting the ball away" And booooommmmmm the team played offense, took 2 bad shot attempts and they counter and scored and within 1 min into the 4th quarter we were out of the game. Good news: we scored 11 goals!!! Bad news they scored 17 goals.
2nd Game in round play: Played Thor's former team - it was close the 1st half then we broke away on counter attacks winning by a over 10 goals.
3rd Game and final game in round play: U of A "B" team both teams with the same record 1 win 1 lost. This is a university team (you know the type, young, in shape, fast). They scored the 1st 2 goals off of counter attacks - They did not get up because they anticipated they were just fast. We slowly closed the gap and finally tied them late in the 3rd quarter. We only needed a tie to advance 2nd in our bracket instead of 3rd. It was close but we tied which was a win for us for two reason: We did not give them goals because we just thought offense, score and the 2nd reason: this win put us in the top 6. Good News: In top 6 Bad news: Had to play the last game and everyone who drove would not get home till after 1 or 2 am... if we lost that game everyone who drove would get home 6 pm.
Thor had our Bar-B-Q - great steaks - corn - roasted onions - beer - wine... Zach and Rainie brought special sausages and sandwiches... or yeah Jake had his 1st Beer and only fall down once.
1st game final round: Played KAOS - good players lots of experience and play a smart game. Great game for us - lost by 1 goal.
2nd and final game in final round: Played University of Arizona "A" team - you know those young, in shape, fast players who were better than their "B" team - which we tied). They were very fast and everytime we made a bad pass, took a bad shot or even took a good shot they countered us - not every other time but everytime they swam us and were up on the counter. Rob played a great game and blocked most of their shot and kept us in the game or they over passed on the counter which allowed our slower bodies to catch up and messed their counters up. U of A had the lead in the 1st half by 2-3 goals - in the 3rd quarter we made a nice run and took the lead by 3 goals then came the wall!!!! We hit the wall, we began to force play and they came back to tie. In the final rounds the golden goal rule applied - so off we went to sudden death. (Oh by the way only kidding about Jake drinking his 1st beer - Jake also scored in every game) They won the sprint - nothing - we lost the ball from a bad pass on the wind - nothing - they set up nothing - we lost the ball on the wing - nothing - they scored.
The team played well: Every played stepped up their game and took on roles they do not usually play with the masters. Their game knowledge and leadership has gone to the next level. We had great games - played great - and most important had a great time.

Goals for Masters
Goals
Everyone should have the following goals all year long:
1. To improve leg strength by working hard during the conditioning phrase of workout.
2. To apply my leg strength to the game situation: thinking about my legs, body position during shooting drills, defensive drills and during scrimmages.
3. To improve my swimming – speed and conditioning.
4. To learn something new each day: The day you think you know it all is the day you will stop improving your game.
5. To have fun!!!
Goals for:
(These goals should be obtained before 2008)
Magee: -When shooting stay off your back.
-Counter hard both ways – you have the speed and not using it.
Rob: -Getting to high corners.
-Knowing when to come out and steal the ball from two meters.
Shannon: -Shooting without your arm going back so far and stay off your
side.
-Move into open water without the ball.
Anthony: -You love offense and do great – Love Defense and do great.
-Keep a positive and open mind when learning the game, there
is a lot to learn – don’t get down.
Edwin: -Hands!!! Got to catch the ball and shoot off the pass
-Get in the best shape of your life!!!
Nabu: -Change some of those bad habits this year: Shooting off your
back, hand on top, thinking only offense.
-Stroke lessons!! When swimming you have to pull and then
push the water back..moving arms but not going fast.
Jacint: -It is OK to make a mistake, don’t get down on yourself or
make a big deal about it –learn and play on.
-Anticipate off and def, then use your speed to get open on
counters.
John: -Outlet passes on the counter attack.
-Communication to your defense and still mind your cage.
Frank: -Really work hard on doing the eggbeater correctly.
-Drive and play with grace, do not always play so physical.
Joe: -Team Leader (communicate) on offense.
-Offensive moves (drives, counter, setting) without so much
showmanship. Do it but not so much and not too often.
UP: -Don’t fake the ball every time you get the ball. When you do
fake it has to move the goalie.
-Since you have been gone we have several new systems, plays,
know all of them before the end of the year.
Zach: -Get in better swim shape (conditioning and speed). To play
with the A’s you have got to counter.
-When setting: be able to kick the ball out, need you to become
more mobile at set.
Greg: -Work the basic (passing, catching, legs, wing passes) and your
game will take giant steps.
-Watch polo games, ask questions and imitate what you see.
Jenny: -Posting up but first thinking drive and get inside or draw the
kickout, them posting up. Think this is going to open
a new game for you.
-Communicate to the guys; you have the knowledge and a good
feel of the game.
Tony: -Keeping your head up at two meters.
-Have fun, polo is fun, leave all the stress behind you. We all
know you work hard and give it your all, don’t get so
down on yourself.
Damon: -Try to watch the game in Panorama – see the entire picture,
not just what is in front of you.
-Work the basics: Legs, swimming, knowing where the ball is
at all times.
Alex: -Anticipate both way (O and D) then use your speed to get up,
don’t count on your speed to get up.
-Keep that left arm in the water while shooting – use the left
arm to stay up and stable your body.
Thor: -Don’t always just go down and set, post up when the other
team drops at two meters.
-Do NOT think draw the foul!!!! Think Do It!!! (no shaking
the head)
Foley: -Take the hole shot quicker, at times you hold onto the ball too
long and allows the defense to crash back.
-Try to make more workouts.
Vaune: -You are awesome at set, make sure your team knows they
will have to cover back on counter for you when you
are setting.
-Instead of lobbing tell your teammates to get open weak,
you fake and then make the assist to the weak side.
Lee: -Work the basics: Mostly legs, passing and catching.
-Offensive counter attack – know where the ball is at,
you are up many times and should get the ball
if you look back at the ball.
Jake: -Be a threat every time you have the ball, you always look
like a passer.
-When swimming move your arms quicker – fast turn over.
-Counter shots: up/down and stay out of the 1 meter!!!
Carlos: -Do not push off!! This will be called offensive and they will
turn the ball over.
-Stop making the noise when you make a mistake!!! The noise
does not and will not make the mistake go away, only
brings attention that you screwed up.
Eric: -Come to workouts!!!!
Roger: -Def on Drives: swim with them, don’t hand check, stay off
their backs.
-Quick outside shots – don’t drop your elbow and you are on
your back just a bit.
Paul: -Read this goalie article that Wilson wrote – I will email to you.
Let me know when I can email this to you.
-Lateral movement – use legs, can’t swim from post to post.
Robert: -Fronting two meters and when you are behind or think they
may get set you have already told someone you might
need help – not when you need the help.
-Shooting different types of shots – side arm, lay on side shot,
skip, etc.
Erin: -Come to workouts.
Dave: -Learn the plays
-Eggbeater – your legs are the base for your shooting, you have
a good shot without using your legs, just think what you
can do when you use your legs.

Does anyone know about the guy from UNLV, he came at the end of the summer?

DISAPPOINTED!!!
To say I am disappointed would be an understatement!!! When the last game was finished, everyone took off and did not help put things away or clean up!!!! The only people who stayed were: Mark St. John who can't walk at the end of this day stayed - Robert who was either playing or reffing all day long stayed - Dale Cooper stayed - Jake and Alex stayed - Louie and Hunter stayed - Carlos stayed. 8 People from our entire group of at least 80 people - players, parents, friends and we have 8 (EIGHT) stayed to put things away and clean up.
You can not say it was hot and we were there from the 7:15 am - because so were the 8 that stayed. You can't say I did not know we had to stay to clean up, this was on the blog for at least 3 weeks that we needed everyone to help out. I don't know what to say, but I am very disappointed in this group - not mad, just very hurt that no one really cares about the entire program.
I just hope we have everyone there to set up at 7 am!!!! And everyone stays for the last game and helps clean up and put things away.
Sorry I missed Rob Wills and his wife Pat - and Nabu helped. Thanks you very much. (Would like you to know why Tony, Vaune and I did not stay: we held a Zone meeting at my house to discuss the future of water polo in our zone..... or we would have stayed to help.)

Theme - Till Tournament
Club and Masters will be working on 6 on 5 (offensive and defense).
Here are few rules:
1. Catch and pass the ball - do not fake the ball.
2. You must pass the ball so your team mates can shoot right off the pass.
3. You must know who, where and how you are going to pass the ball before you get the ball. Don't get the ball, then think where should I pass the ball.
4. NO 1 to 6 passes or 6 to 1 passes. (only a few, very few can make this pass and only at certain times and players have to be in a special place.
All this week - everyone will begin workouts at the same time!!! 6-8 pm at Dula.
Listen!!! Watch and Listen when you are out!!! Ask questions!!!!

Mary Brooks - JO's
Mary Brooks is playing with Santa Barbara. This is the team that came down during Easter Week and we scrimmaged against them. The coach of the Santa Barbara Team (Cathy) was a former National Team Player.
Mary called today and said she is doing good - she is playing good water polo at both ends of the pool. She is up on counter attacks and driving ballside. Her 12 & Under team should win all their games. Mary is also on the 14 & Under C team - which won both their games today.
Will keep you posted on Mary's play!! Go Mary!!!

JO - last game
We played our last game Tuesday against San Diego Shores B - we won but not without drama again. Drew was throwing up right before the game and could not even walk - so he sat on the bench with a cap on to make it look like we had 1 sub.
We went up 3-0 in the 1st quarter. Then the guys got a little offensive stir crazy and countered too soon, or were just not knowing where the ball was at and next thing we know it is a game 4-3 at half. We played a much better end of the game when up by a few goals.... much more control and no turnovers. We ended with a record of 3-3. Not bad for 8 players (6 field and 2 goalies - from 6 different programs) and in most games we always had a player in foul trouble or rolled or sick.
They played their hearts out - not one time did anyone ask to be subbed out for a rest!!! Great Job guys!!!

JO's - Game 5
Today we let the guys sleep in till 10:30 am - then took them to IHOP. Had a nice big Bkfast, drove back to the hotel - had our team meeting and went to the pool a little early to watch the two teams before our game. We would play one the those team - win, we play the winner, lose, we play the loser of that game.
We played Regency - they scored the 1st 2 goals - we came back with 1 goal late in the 2nd quarter and they scored a last second outside 5 meter shot. Half time was 1-3.
The third quarter we finally began to play to our potential at both ends of the pool. We went up by 1 goal at the end of the 3rd quarter. The 4th quarter was a hair pulling experience for me, Matt and John... and our parents in the stands. We were up by 2 goals, the ref's both blow their whistles and kick out a player - the other team calls a time out... right before the ball is put back into play the ref tells me we have two players out - they both called different players out. So with 3 second to change the defense to a 4 on 6...... they shoot the ball 4 times and we make the block and they regain the ball each time and finally scored on the 5 try..... PLUS the table is 6 seconds late waving in our two players sitting out. I made sure the ref's knew the table messed up. We drew a kickout on a pretty easy turn at two meters - we finally set up with the players in the correct positions and run 4 play with Kyle at 1 - Jake at 2 and Matt at 4 and run it perfectly and score. Up again by 2 goals...... the table does not change the score, after much yelling. There is now only 54 second left - I call a timeout - tell the table to change the score and told the guys to swim thru the ball because the other team is going to swim and try to steal the ball. So goalie passes the ball out to Kyle and he is not swimming to the ball, Kyle makes a pass to Josh who is not even on ball side and does not swim to the ball, they steal the ball and miss the counter shot. Our goalie then makes a pass out to Matt and he makes the pass inside instead of outside - they steal the ball and miss the 2 on 4 counter attack. The the goalies passes the ball out to Jake a little too far and they steal the ball from Jake and they miss another counter attack goal. We won the game 8 to 6.... but the next time you see me, Matt and John we will have a little more grey hair!!!
Next and last game will be Tuesday at 11 am.... against Long Beach Shores. The guys are going to the mall for dinner, shop a little, go to a movie. They are doing a great job!!! They are getting their money worth in playing time and game experience: all are close games!!!!

JO - Game 4
We played Sultan today at 5:30 pm - it was a close evenly matched game. They scored a counter attack on their 1st possession and on the very next possession they scored another counter attack. We came back and tied the game 2-2 and the next quarter we were up another 2 goals. Then in the 4th quarter it was very hard to communication from the bench to the water with all the parents from the other team sitting behind our bench. And they came back to win by 1 goal in the last seconds of the game. The guys put their hearts in the game but sometimes heart and no experience or not thinking does not cut it. The final score was 5-6.
Our next game is Monday at 1:30 pm against Placer Hills..... will keep you posted.

JO - Game 2
We played Florida the #1 seed in our bracket. The final score was 6-9 Florida. Our 2nd quarter killed us - Matt Brooks had two majors so with only 1 sub I had to put Matt in the goal and play both goalies in the field. Florida took this time to have a shooting workout and made 5 of their 9 goals, taking outside shoots (lobs - hard shots) and 2 of those goals came off of tips and into the goal. We came back hard in the 3rd quarter and put Matt back in the field and closed the gap.
We lost the 1st game by only 1 goal and I considered this game as a lost because we made sooooooo many minor mistakes. Tonight we lost by 3 goals but consider this game a win!!! We really played 110% better, all the guys worked hard on defense and most important they did not make the same mistakes as in our 1st game. The players we have from Utah and Arizona have been on the bubble each year at the Zone tryouts and second string on their club teams. They are now stepping up and taking an active part in both the offense and defense. The guys are all getting along great - every day I have them play Paper - Rock - Scissors to see who will carry balls and caps: So far David lost the 1st day - tomorrow Josh from Hunter Utah will have the honors.
Our next game is against Honolulu - their team in past years have always been very quick not only in swimming but all their moves and shots were quick. Check in tomorrow for more results.

JO - Game 1
We played Stanford this am we lost by 1 goal 8-7. Overall the boys played well: Remember we have 8 players (6 field and 2 goalies) from 5 different clubs. From day 1 to now I can see a huge difference in their play, but we made some pretty basic mistakes which lead to 6 of their goals. They had two very nice shots. Pretty funny when we see teams with 10-12 players on their bench and we have 1 player. I am making John Melia and Matt Brooks sit on the bench to fill the 15 chairs on the deck.
Tonight we play Florida - they are the #1 seeded team in our Bracket. They played Stanford and they did not have a very good game and this game ended in a 7-7 tie. So we will have our work cut out for us! They will not only want to beat us but must beat us by as many goals as possible.
Will post the results tonight.

Boys JO's
We left 5:45 am on Thursday for JO's - got to Modesto and scrimmage two teams: 18 Boys and 16 Boys from Turlock. We played well (except for our "M" Defesne at the end) but won very easy. We have 6 field players and two goalies, which means 1 sub. Ryan broke his hand (Good job Jacint - lol).... and could not make the trip, in fact Ryan has to sit out of JO Swimming too. He is in a cast now and in 1 week if the bones are not going in the correct direction, he will have to had an operation to but in hardware so the hand is set correctly. Hang in there Ryan... we will miss you. We stayed the night in Modests.
This am we scrimmaged Modesto and Oakdale - did 1 long quarter regular game - then did 20 mins of 6 on 5 with both teams. We did pretty good and beat both teams easily. We then drove to San Jose (Santa Clara) had dinner and the boys are hanging out watching TV - sitting by the hotel pool. So far no problems! They are a good bunch of kids.
Tomorrow we play Stanford and the #1 seed Florida.... both have great programs and very very hard games for us. Will let you know the results Sat pm....
Play nice on Sat!!!

Theme for Week of July 16th
This weekend we are going work on shooting!!! Shooting and a little more shooting!!!
Here is what I would like to you think about when shooting!!!!
1. Don't think about just making the goal - you have to think about your body position - your release - your legs - the movement during the shot - the goalie positions. DO NOT JUST SHOOT THE BALL HARD!!! AND DON'T THINK TOO MUCH, which will cause you to lose your legs and shoot into the goalie or over the cage.
2. Legs - stomach is the parts of your body that should be hurting after a good shooting workout. Not your shoulders!! You may need to swim a little during the drills to rest and or loosen up a little before going on.

Shannon's Move
Thank you Mrs. Keating for the donation to the team. I am sorry we did not have everyone there who said they would come and help. (Magee, Joe, Foley, Roger where were you?) But a Big Thanks to: Adam (club player 14 years old) - Mary (former President of Team Vegas - retired) and Gregg!!! I'll bet I know who did most of the heavy lifting!!!
Blog Posts
I have set up this Blog as an information - congratulations - space. I did not create this blog for someone to write about how they don't like the new set up for the masters. I was gone for the weekend and could not get to my computer to stop or erase the one negative comment.
If you need to discuss an issues please come see me face to face. The blog is not a place to air your negative comments.

Newport Results
The kids did great!!! Still a lot to work on but we are getting there. We beat So Cal B's in our 1st game - which put us in a great position: We were in the top 4. Our next game was against SET (team from El Toro) We started off great then had SET by 3 goals but then had a few moments of ??? and at half our lead was cut to 1 goal (5-4) SET scored the 1st goal of the 3rd quarter and ties us - then we had some great defense which lead to counter attack goals and we were up 10-5. In the last quarter SET came out firing and out scored us 3-1 but Team Vegas/Henderson. This win put us in the Championship game vs CVA (Capo Valley Aquatics). In out last game we were out muscled with their big 2 meter - we were in a catch 22: if we dropped and double at set they shot from the outside - if we played man to man at two meters he shot from 2 meters. They also scored on a few defensive mistakes.
All and all it was a very good weekend - saw much improvement in and out of the water.

Masters Workouts
Hey gang - The workouts are going great: Monday the Black group did an awesome job - You were all doing the two wet shots correctly (bet better than the Red group).... wraps were good too. We are going to continue to work on 1 on 1 drives. Remember you bear into your man, don't swim away from them.
I know the leg workout is pretty hard but without legs you can't shoot, pass, play any defense!!! So work the legs!! When you are doing legs or the swims - make sure you guys are working out as a team - help and encourage your mates!!!
This Sat there is no Club workout - so when you walk in and don't see anyone don't panic!!! Workout begins at 2:30 pm for Masters and a few of the older kids.

Shannon's Moving Blog: Shannon will let you know everything you need to know about her moving day on this blog. So far: Joe - Magee (if Tammi doesn't have the baby) - Mary - Foley - Roger - Adam (14 year old boy) - could use at least 1 more strong guy - 2 would be great - the more the quicker the move will go.
So Check back here for details: direction to Shannon's apartment - etc.

Workout Theme for week of July 9th:
Set offense: We have to have a somewhat controlled offense so we have an idea of what we are doing, not like robots but we need to have some idea of when, where and how we are going to shoot the ball. This way it does not come as a surprise and we get scored on, off their counter attack.
If the defense drops and doubles two meters from the point (3): We run 5 up (or could run 1 up if 5 is not there).
If the defense drops and doubles two meters from the weak flat (4): We run the point drive.
If they press and ball gets into set we need to anticipate a foul or the shot. If shot - go back defense and help cover for our set. If the set is fouled we need to drive from the point and release from the weakside of the pool to put back into two meters.
We will continue to work the counter attack!!! Few things:
1. Stay out of dummy land
2. Know where the ball is at
3. The top or 1st players down - need to release
4. The players 1st down to the base (2mt) must swim out for the 2nd wave!!! We get this down and we will run the other team down - they won't counter and we can save our energy for our counters.

Goalie - Mark
This is from Mark's site: We are are wishing him the best!!
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY TO ALL!!!
Well a quick update to everyone. Mark has been very lucky and has not had any hard times during his chemo, until now. He is in the hospital with pneumonia. We went to the ER on Sunday because of his fever and they decided to keep him in the hospital for a few days. Mark has been excellent on doing whatever it takes to get rid of the fever. Today he is doing a lot better, he has a lot more energy and the fever has been gone basically all day. If he keeps it up then he could go home tomorrow.
Until then, we are keeping ourselves entertained. We have been playing video games, reading, watching a ton of TV and sleeping, A LOT. This has been a great time for us to catch up on a lot of sleep :)
Please have a safe and fun 4th of July, but not too much fun (we have a view of a wall from this room so no fireworks for us :( )

As I was driving home tonight and thinking about workout: I realized that there was more communications between players - giving directions, giving a pat on teammates - Great Job!!! Keep it up!!!
I would like to see everyone helping out there - speak up!! Ask for help, and give help by speaking up.
"One time" this is One time month: You can only make a mistake once - you have to think what you did and how you can improve or what you need to do to change the mistake. If you don't know ASK ME!!!!

Workout Theme for July 2nd to ?
Remember no workout for the Masters on Wed - July 4th - Be Safe or our Fireman John will come and get you!!!
These next few workouts we will continue to work on counter attack:
- Know where the ball is at
- Know where your teammates are
- Know where the ball is at
- Know where the defense is at
- Know where the ball is at
And we will include set offense: 3 Basic Plays: You must know what we are going to run before you have to run it!!!
1. Ball is at point (3) the defense is dropping from there: run 5 up
-5 look swim - you could be open anytime from in front of two meters
to the back door
-1 wraps as soon as they start the drive
2. Ball is at the weak flat (4) the defense is dropping from there: run the
point drive.
-point drive and bear into your man - don't just swim down.
3. Press, get the ball into set, make a great pass to 2mt - place the ball so
only they can get the ball - or - place the ball to turn the set to a better
shooting position.
-if the set is fouled - release on the weak side and try to get the ball
back in. And drive on the strong side.
When we are fouled at 5 meters or further out - if you know no one is open - fake a outside shot. .. .. This is so we get use to defending the shot.
The Black players: You attendance has not been good. Shannon, Jake, Antony and Frank have been the only ones to attend all workouts.
The Red players: Great job!!! Keep the attendance and intensity up. If this keeps up plan on going to the Maui tournament next summer - 2nd or 3rd week in July.... then taking at least 3-4 days of beach time. Looks like we will take two masters team.
