College Visit for the girls and their mom's:
April 2nd at University of Irvine 1 pm vs Hartwich (Alan Huckins: Head Coach for Hartwich, he comes to our Summer Slam every year).
April 3rd at University of Irvine 1 pm vs Stanford (I will try to get our players and moms to meet the coaches and players from Stanford too).
Plan to drive out April 2nd early 6 am - arrive and Dan Klatt (Head Coach UCI & USA Women's National Assistant Coach) will give our players a tour of the campus, their training room, meet the team after their game against Hartwich.
Stay over night in the Irvine area - which is close to the beach... April 3rd Sunday watch 1 pm game against Stanford. Drive home.
Dan is going to set it up so our team dose not have to pay for tickets to the game - there is a $10 parking charge so make sure you car pool.
I need a parent to set up the travel for this awesome trip!!! Let me know if you want or can help.

Commerce Results
Water Polo: was the perfect name for our sport this weekend: the kids were in the water when out of the pool also in the water when in the pool. It was raining hard!!!!
Team Vegas entered 4 teams: 10 & Unders/coach Whitney, 12 & Unders/coach Louie, 14 & Unders/dry coach Robert and 18 & Under/coach Tony. Both players and coaches were awesome.
10 & Unders won their bracket, then played their 3rd game on Saturday to advance to the games which would determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th. 3 wins and 0 lost for their Saturday games!! Great Defense and good offense and now they are ready to play for a medal on Sunday. Lost to Commerce and lost to South Coast put Team Vegas with a 4th place finish. Fourth place was very good showing for our young group. I look at tournament games as performing on stage: you can't learn your lines on stage you do this at rehearsals. So the 10's need to learn at workouts and then perform at tournaments. All in all I was it was a great learning experience for all - players, parents and coaches. Hope Ridge and Arem are ok... they both got sick and left early to get home and get well.
12 & Unders: With one win and one lost in the 1st round this put our 12's playing for the top 12 spots out of 24 teams. Our team was mostly players who were 10 & Under and just aged up... they did an great job. Coach Louie was very proud of their improvement. We won the last game against CHAWP's it always seems like Hannah has an effect on this team, they get so mad... I believe it is because she tools and schools this team. Even some one's grand parent got involved!!! Great Game!!!
14 & Unders: while all the other coaches and teams were getting soaked in the rain the 14's were indoor along with Coach Robert... our team won one and lost one in bracket play which put them in the top 8. With a great front and lane defense we were awesome!!! The last game again our old friend the Titan was great!! Defense again was the key to an easy victory for 7th place out of 28 teams!!!
18 & Unders: Wow they looked like men playing not 15-16 year old boys playing!! This year they did not offer an 16 & Under Division so we had to enter in the 18 & Under division. We won one and lost one in bracket play which put us playing for 5th-12th. The biggest win during the weekend was beating Rose Bowl in a tight game and we won in the last few seconds of the game. Tony had the guys running like they have been playing together all their lives and we had players from: Colorado, Reno, Fresno. Great Job guys and Mary!!
I went from pool to pool on both Saturday and Sunday - watching and helping where I could with all the team. I was very happy to see the improvement from all the players who have been attending all workouts... working hard and attendance does matter. I was a little disappointed in play from players who do not have good attendance, get your attendance up.
Soon after the New Years we will be setting up a Team Meeting with Parents and Coaches. Agenda items to include: Fund Raising, Team Policy, New Workout Schedules, Calendar of Events, Master Festival, etc.....

Holiday Party Recap
THANK YOU to the Robinson's (Ridge and his Mom Vanessa) for letting the team use their warehouse for the Holiday Party. So many said how perfect the warehouse was and the fact we have grown and we need a warehouse to host a party!! And to the Waves for coming the night before and decorating.
The food was great! Thank you parents and players for bringing such tasty food. We had so much food and desserts we needed two more tables just to fit it all. Tony a BIG thanks for the steaks and as always cooked perfect!!!
It was fun watching the kids opening their presents, their look on their faces was priceless!!! We went with having the little ones go last for several reason: If they went 1st they would have gone off with their toys/presents. Also we wanted to save the best for the last!!!
Thank You to the all parents and players that helped set up the night before and clean up after. The place looked great with the decorations and tree and lights. It didn't even seem we were in a warehouse and after we cleaned up, it was a warehouse again.
I hope next year we need a football field to hold our party - so let's keep growing, playing water polo and having fun with your new polo family.
Thanks again.

Holiday Party - Location Needed
I want to Thank the Magee's for offering their home for the team's party but after counting the #'s it is so small - which is a good thing: Our club has grown!!!
We need help locating a place to hold the party for at least 150 people. If you can check around, maybe your church has a room, your club house, hotel meeting room (where we do not have to have them cater the food). Please let Cheryl Curry know if you can help.

Nik wins the Jody Campbell Award
Take a look at the USWP web site - Nik was awarded the Jody Campbell Award for the 14 & Under Championships. Good Job Nik... keep up the hard work. Congratulations!!!
14 & Under Championships - Houston Texas
Our 14 boys: Steven, Nik, Joey, Andre, Derek, Skyler, Noah were join with two players from Utah: Tyler and Mitch. This competition was a great learning experience for the boys, they saw what a national championship is all about. They were shaking in their boots before the tournaments and the shaking continue during all the games. Again the boys took away a great learning experience, they had fun too.
One observation I made was: we cannot go to a National Championship so green, so inexperienced but need to get more games under our belt. I know they boys knew what to do in the games but just never put an entire game together, I know the boys hear what we were telling them to do in the water but just could not do it because they have not felt this kind of pressure before. So taking all this into consideration I am going to run our own Nevada/Cal Cup. NCC means taking a team to Southern California setting up 2-3 games for a one day trip... this is much like the Cal Cup but it will be on our own time schedule and won't cost us the entry fee. I would like each team: 10's , 12's girls with a few boys, 14 boys with a few girls, 16 & Over going to California at least once every 2 months, maybe more depending on the time of year.
PARENTS: We need our players to compete in tournaments, scrimmages before we enter in the National Championships: Junior Olympics, 14 & Under Championships or we are setting ourselves up to fail. I understand the money issues and if you have any problems we can and will find a way to make sure every child gets to compete at all levels, my door is always open. Another way of saving money to afford all competitions is to have only the player travel and not the entire family. We will be needing at least one parent helping out with driving the players along with the coach. So the cost of NCC will include: splitting the cost of gas, 2 meals, few bucks for water and a bag of snacks for the drive out.
Getting back to the 14 & Under Championships - the boys had dinner with the girls team from Danville (Maureen one of my former players coached this team) both girls and boys had a great time. This picture was taken at Olive Garden. We have a new shot called the Big D shot, ask Derek to show you how it is done. Andre was on the USA Water Polo Website. Nik did a great job as our Team Captain.
I was told next year USWP wants to add a 12 & Under Championship - Go Girls!!!
Please reply to me via email or in person if you are going to have problems attending the NCC's.

UCLA and USC
Picture of our guys on UCLA tour. 2nd Picture: Derek what are you dreaming about? Picture 3: Our guys!
Notes from Tony:
Well guys what a great week end. For a lot of you this was your first experience being on campus and watching a big game. Wasn't it a great atmosphere with the student body on the deck and all the fans in the stands. Watching the UCLA VS Stanford game, how intense you felt when one of the teams scored and how the fans cheered for both sides. Now imagine how that player from UCLA felt when he scored the winning goal for his team. How the student body cheered and the stands irrupted chanting UCLA UCLA. How proud he must felt bringing home this victory for his team and the fans. Now imagine it was you!!! Everyone of you boys have the opportunity to make this dream come true. It is up to you and your will to make your dreams reality.
Thanks Sandy for helping put this together and giving our kids some thing to dream about and start them thinking about their future's. For me it was a great time to spend with the kids and parents, watching there minds start opening to the possibility that this can actually be for them. It was an irreplaceable time for me to spend with my son that i will hold close to my heart for along time.
So Boys dream BIG!!!! Were there is a WILL there is always a WAY!!!!!

Scottsdale Masters Tournament
The Scottsdale Tournament will be held Jan 22-23, 2011. Please let me know if you are interested in attending - Planning on taking an A and B team... ladies and our older club players are welcome to attend. Not knowing the how many players will be attending I cannot give you an exact cost ... here is an estimate: 90-110 per player. Every masters tournament we (team and I) lose money because we have players who have to back out... once you commit you are in and will be charged the amount to cover the cost of entry fees and coaches cost.
Rob can you take the lead on this and look into hotels? We will be playing at the same location as we did last year. Drew will have a Sat BBQ again. It is going to be hard to defend our title without Jacint and Adrain.... our speed!!!
Need your commitment by Nov 1st. Thanks

Congrats to our 10 & Under Coed Team

We are very proud of you!!!
We are very proud of you!!!
Cal Cup
At our meeting at UNLV we went over the upcoming schedule till the end of 2011 summer. We wanted to enter in a league: Cal Cup, which would be held in California for several one day mini tournaments (2-3 games in one day, then back home) this would not involve any hotel, only gas, food money and an up front entry fee.
With the poor attendance for the Pacific tournament, I do not want to commit to the Cal Cup unless we have 100% attendance. If we have one maybe two players who cannot attend we will not have enough players to play on any given weekend (one) day.
Please let me know via email or in person you will commit to having your child, children attend all games. Also understand we can drive the kids and parents do not need to attend money is an issue. We need to compete in smaller tournaments so when the big ones come around we can be right at the top.

Parents
Team Vegas/Henderson Water Polo
Parent Code of Conduct
In order for our club to compete successfully at the highest level, it is
essential to recognize that participation in the Team Vegas/Henderson is a
commitment being made by entire families, not just players. Therefore, it is
important that we outline our expectations for parents as well as players.
Please read the following guidelines that we expect our parents to follow.
1. Parents are allowed to attend practices and encouraged to attend games.
However, parents are expected to stay away from the side of the pool and
away from the coaches during practices and games.
2. Parents should support the players on our teams and refrain from making
disparaging remarks about or directed at any of our players, coaches,
opponents, or officials. Parents must avoid any physical or verbal
confrontations with the parents, coaches, and players of our club or our
opponents or with the officials.
3. Parents are not coaches; the players should receive their directions only
from the coaching staff on the pool deck, not from parents in the stands. The
coaching staff is giving directions which will enhance the entire team (not
just one child). Parents cheer for the team/players and don't yell out any
directions.
4. Parents are expected to have rides available for their children at the time
that practices and games are scheduled. Parents need to understand that
part of the mission of the coaches is to help the players develop into mature,
responsible young men and women. Therefore, it is the responsibility of
players to communicate directly with coaches when issues arise.
5. Decisions about playing time, travel teams, and all other water polo related
matters are made exclusively by the coaching staff and are not open to
debate, discussion, or negotiation with parents. A player should feel free to
discuss his/her status with the coaches at an appropriate time.
6. Parents are expected to get their children to all practices and games on
time. If you cannot be on time, be early!
7. No player will be allowed to participate in any practice or game unless
he/she is registered with the club. All club dues must be paid in full in order
for a player to be allowed to enter the water.

Guys Weekend - UCLA and USC
Hello Parents,
Not too long ago Sandy spoke to you and players about the opportunity of visiting 2 college campuses in California this year. Well the time has come and we have set a date!
Not too long ago Sandy spoke to you and players about the opportunity of visiting 2 college campuses in California this year. Well the time has come and we have set a date!
Sandy is making arrangements for us to visit with coaches from UCLA & USC and possibly getting a tour of the Athletic Department from each campus. Our players will also be attending 2 games during this trip. On Oct. 15th, they will attend a UCLA vs. Stanford game and on Oct 16th, they will watch a USC vs. Cal Berkley game.
We want to make this a guy/male experience with the team, so please fathers/uncles/brothers, if at all possible, please consider being part of this fun trip.
It is also a great opportunity for the boys to get a feel of the college life and future educational/water polo endeavors.
I need to know how many of you are interested in going on this trip so that I can have a head count before any hotel & transportation arrangements can be finalized.
We will be staying at: THE UCLA GUEST HOUSE (for one night)
Cost is $148.00 per room, this hotel is on the UCLA campus!!!
I need a response from you NO LATER THAN SEPT. 17th. (please email me or call me at (702) 491-6466)
If you do not provide me with a response on this date, I will assume you are handling your own traveling/lodging accommodations.
Departure will be Friday, October 15th at 12:00pm and returning Sat., Oct. 16th at night.
If your child will travel alone, please let me know ASAP so that I can make rooming accommodations with other players from our team that may be traveling alone as well.
I will follow up with gas and hotel fees as soon as I get a head count.
Thank you,
Tony

Evaluations - Recap - Coaches Meeting
I have met with almost all the players and their parents, they went well, here are the main points that came from the Evaluations:
1. Players need to ask questions.
2. Goals are due either by end of this week or next week - depends on which group you were in.
3. The eye wash Louie uses is called: Genteal Gel comes in a twin pack for $17.99, you can get at WalMart or CVS.
4. Players/Parents when you go out of town let me know and I will try to set you up with either:
a. A team you can workout with b. Colleges to visit, I might be able to set up a meeting with the Water Polo Coach.
5. What to Eat on Trips - we are setting up a meeting with a Nutritionist soon.
There are still a few players who have not signed up - please talk to me so we can schedule an appointment soon.
I also met with our coaches, we discussed many items - here is a Recap from our Meeting:
2010 Remainder Schedule of Events:

-Boys/Men Weekend Trip - last year the girls/women took a trip to San Diego State to visit the campus and meet the Water Polo Coach. This year our boys and their dads will take a trip to UCLA and USC. Oct 15 to watch UCLA play Stanford and Oct 16th to watch UCS play Cal. Tony will organize
-Pacific San Diego Classic - Oct 9-11 with 10's and 12 or 14 Girls. No 14 Boys, need to save money for the Speedo Cup in Michigan. Angie can you organize?

2011 Schedule of Events:

-Masters National may be out - too hard when we split our team, cost is high, only get 4 games and 5 min quarters... I am looking into another tournament, maybe the River Rafting Tournament - arrive Friday - 1 game, Sat am 1 game - then off on the river - social BBQ - Sunday am game. Or we could enter in one of the Texas Tournaments.. still looking.

-Commerce Tournament
Fund Raising:
After much discussion we are setting standards for each player/family to either participate or donate to our Team's Fund Raising cause. Tony will be writing these Policies. Each Fund Raising event will have guidelines for each player/parent for the following either fund raising or events we are hosting:
-Car Wash - Policy to be written by John and Andre
-Fireworks - Policy to be written by Rob and Tony
-Poker Tournament - Policy to be written by Trish and Mark
-Festival - Policy to be written by Colleen and Cheryl
-Summer Slam - Policy to be written by Matt
In the past we have had the same families doing all the work but all the kids/players get the benefits, use our new balls, caps, game clocks, cones, etc.
We (coaches) would like your help in recruiting new players to the team: When you are watching workouts and you see a kid or parent watching our workout or game, approach them and ask them if they have any questions about our team/family/sport. Mark will have "Club Info sheet" for you to hand out.
Last but not least we are going to begin working to get Water Polo in the High Schools - we may have to begin as a club sport in the schools but it will be a start. Louie has taken on (kinda forced to) the responsible to get this off the ground. So when Louie approaches you please offer you help - this is the key to grow water polo here in Vegas and this would be another great stepping stone for your kids college education.
-Masters - University of Arizona - Date to be announced
-Boys/Men Weekend Trip - last year the girls/women took a trip to San Diego State to visit the campus and meet the Water Polo Coach. This year our boys and their dads will take a trip to UCLA and USC. Oct 15 to watch UCLA play Stanford and Oct 16th to watch UCS play Cal. Tony will organize
-Pacific San Diego Classic - Oct 9-11 with 10's and 12 or 14 Girls. No 14 Boys, need to save money for the Speedo Cup in Michigan. Angie can you organize?
-We are planning on taking a Boy 14 & Under/8th Grade to Michigan again - Nov 12-15th. Wendy can you organize?
-Commerce Tournament Dec 10-12 - all age groups - Any Volunteer's?
-Next year we will try to attend the Reno Shootout, a high school tournament which takes place Labor Day Weekend.
2011 Schedule of Events:
-Some of players will compete in the Olympic Development Program - ask your ODP Coaches for info
-We will again host the Masters Festival - would love for Colleen, Cheryl and Dorothy to run this again. We are going to add the Poker tournament to the Festival and Mark and Trish will be in charge of the Poker Tournament.
-Masters will attend the Scottsdale Tournament in Jan.
-I am looking into entering our teams in the Cal Cup League - 4 weekends - one day and we get 2-3 games... great opportunity for our kids to get more experience and not cost much money. More info to follow.
-Masters will attend the San Diego Finest
-Masters National may be out - too hard when we split our team, cost is high, only get 4 games and 5 min quarters... I am looking into another tournament, maybe the River Rafting Tournament - arrive Friday - 1 game, Sat am 1 game - then off on the river - social BBQ - Sunday am game. Or we could enter in one of the Texas Tournaments.. still looking.
-We will attend Kearns again
-JO's might be in Orange County this summer.
-Reno Shootout - Sept
-Speedo Cup
-Commerce Tournament

Update on the Tour of Duty
Rob Wills, John Melia and the rest of the Tour of Duty gang have left Vegas and are currently heading towards Bullhead city. Thanks to everyone that went to the Strip to see the ceremonial run down Las Vegas Blvd. Highlights from the run include a custom Bellagio water show and the Fremont Street Experience showcasing the runners on the marquee. Follow the run's progress atwww.tourofduty.com.au and follow Rob's blog at robstod.blogspot.com
Also, Robert and Jake went down at midnight to run with their Dad's Rob and John. And a BIG thank you to Chris Magee for having Bellagio dedicate the water show to the Tour of Duty while they ran by.

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen it's that time of year again...
It's time to get ready for the TVH Summer Slam.
For those who haven't been a part of this event before
we need all parents to help run this tournament the weekend
of August 14 & 15.
This tournament gets bigger and better every year because of the
team work we all put in to make it a HUGE success.
We will once again be holding table training/refresher course
for those of you that have never worked the table during a game or
those of you that have forgotten everything since last August!
Training will be this Friday night July 23rd, 6:30 to 8 pm,during practice at the Multigen.
The table will be set up and we'll work in shifts to train everyone on the
shot clock, game clock and score sheet while players scrimmage.
We will be signing parents and players to work the table during the
tournament.
I know you're all dying to get a seat at the official's table, but remember
that we will need help with concessions and t-shirts also (no kids at these venues.)

RUN ACROSS AMERICA
FROM ROB WILLS
Hello friends and family,
Some of you may have heard about my upcoming “Tour Of Duty” LA to NY run. If you haven’t, here is a brief synopsis:
I have been selected to participate in a once in a life time event, the “Tour Of Duty” ( www.tourofdutyrun.com ). This is a run from Santa Monica Pier in California to Ground Zero in New York in honor the 2,973 victims, including 411 emergency service workers, who lost their lives on 9/11.
The “Tour of Duty” is a continuous relay run across America by fifteen pairs of firefighters, police officers and military personnel from Australia and the United States. Each pair of runners will run in shifts during the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 31 day event, splitting the 4,500 mile course between them, averaging approximately 13 miles per runner each day. The purpose of this event is to pay tribute to the 2,973 victims, including 411 emergency service workers, who died in the collapse of the World Trade Center; to honor all victims of September 11, 2001; and to raise funds to be contributed to charitable organizations which include: National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund; Fallen Firefighters Memorial Fund; Wounded Warriors Fund; National 9/11 Memorial Fund and the 9/11 Tribute Center. The run will show unity among an international team of emergency service and military personnel. The Tour of Duty is a 31-day run starting on August 12, 2010, in Los Angeles and ending on September 11, 2010, in New York City. Along the route, the run will pause for events in Las Vegas, New Orleans, Milwaukee, Washington DC and New York City. Additional stops will be made to pay honor at the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, Flight 93 crash site in Shanksville, Pa., Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Md., National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC and the Pentagon in Arlington, Va.
Events are being planned in Las Vegas and other cities along our route. You can check the website for any route updates, and can keep up with the daily progress of our run by visiting our “Tour Of Duty” App on your iPhone! (TOUR OF DUTY iPhone App - Click on the icon or copy and paste the link below). Also, please post information on your Facebook or other social networking account – the more the word gets out the better!

I am representing the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, as well as all law enforcement, in this month long event. I am also raising funds that will be put towards the listed charities, as well as towards the logistics of the event. I am requesting a donation in support of this event in any amount you feel appropriate – no amount too big or too small.
Donations can be made in two ways:
1. Send check made out to “Tour Of Duty” (noting my name in the “note” section) to me at work - 6830 Bermuda Rd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119, or
2. Log into www.tourofdutyrun.com and click the “donate” tab on top. This will direct you to a page where you can make a secure donation through PayPal. Be sure to note my name in the notes.

From Rob to the Team
I want to thank you for the very nice words of appreciation. I don't want to sound mushy, but I'm the one that feels lucky to have been a part of this group for as long as I and my family have, and I look forward to many more years of the same. It would not be the same group without your leadership which is often not mentioned, but definitely understood by all of us.
Thanks again,
Rob.
Thanks again,
Rob.

Team Pictures
Don't forget!! The club team will be taking a team picture tomorrow at 2pm at Multi Gen. All groups wear your team suit.
Rob Wills
We are very lucky to have a person like Rob Wills on the team!! Rob not only set up everything with the Fire Works (meetings, paper work, worked out all the big and little details)... Rob also drives his white school bus to our master tournament and takes along at least half of the team, he brings an ice chest and has drinks for the team (which we should all give Rob money for before or during the tournament for the drinks). Rob is the 1st person to help one of his teammates - helped Magee with building his house, re constructed Mark's room, hooked me up with a few more outlets for my TV/Cable lines just to mention a few!!
We are very lucky to have Rob on our Team!! Thank You Very Much Rob!!!

Fireworks - Great Job
Overall a successful fundraiser bringing in over $3,100 for our team!
Awards for the most pre-sales go to:
$522.93 - Mia and Skyler Chanove
$381.94 - Noah and Dave Thorson
$296.96 - Derek, Joey and Sarah Defusco
Honorable mentions:
$253.95 - Ryan Abbott
$251.98 - Nolan Benner
As far as this years fireworks fundraiser goes, John, Wendy, Derek, Joey and Sarah were extremely helpful. They helped set-up in the morning and pack-up at night on most of the days, and the whole family gave up their 4th of July to work the both and to help inventory the remaining fireworks! They also gave up their truck and trailer which was huge! They were a big part of this fundraiser. Matt and Trish were also very helpful with helping set-up and pack-up on many of the days. Trish's "reminders" to sign up for a shift were what we needed for that added push to fill up the list. For the most part, the folks who signed up to work their 2 hour shift did a very good job in helping out. And Vaune taking on the duties of our financial person, counting and making deposits as well as working the booth. Another Thanks goes to everyone who signed up for more than 1 or 2 shifts... some of you are natural born salespeople.
Thank you everyone who worked the booth – I purchased the Portable shot clocks last night! Every time you see them on the deck remember it was your hard work that put them on deck.
Great job to all the players last weekend who attended the 13th Annual Summer Tournament.
Both the 15U and 12U teams ending up undefeated the entire weekend and both took home 1st place honors. All your coaches - Mark - Tony - Louie - Andre - Vaune - Sandy are very proud of each of you. When I heard the scores and how great you all were playing I knew it was our Team Defense that got us all the "W's".
Thank you to all the parents who were very supportive the entire weekend. From transportation, to making sure we all had water and drinks and snacks(un-expired snacks, thanks Angie) and shade.

Youth Boys Training Camp
Max Taylor attended the USA Youth National Training Camp this weekend, Max did a great job, we can all be proud of Max, I know Tony, Louie and I are proud of his play at the camp. He did not make the Training Team but this has only motivated him more.. a great example to all of us... Don't give up... Re write the game plan and go for it again and again if needed. A great comment made by one of the National Team Youth Coaches: Powers who is presently on the Men's Senior Team never made a Youth or Junior team but after college he selected on the Men's Olympic Team and has an Olympic Silver Medal around his neck!!
Max great job!!! You have your new game plan (goals) now go for it!!
