Parents Guide

With so many new player and parents, we all need a review of our Team's Guidelines for parents:

Team Vegas/Henderson Water Polo
Parent Code of Conduct

In order for our club to compete successfully at the highest level, it is
essential to recognize that participation in the Team Vegas/Henderson is a
commitment being made by entire families, not just players. Therefore, it is
important that we outline our expectations for parents as well as players.
Please read the following guidelines that we expect our parents to follow.

1. Parents are allowed to attend practices and encouraged to attend games.
However, parents are expected to stay away from the side of the pool and
away from the coaches during practices and games.

2. Parents should support the players on our teams and refrain from making
disparaging remarks about or directed at any of our players, coaches,
opponents, or officials. Parents must avoid any physical or verbal
confrontations with the parents, coaches, and players of our club or our
opponents or with the officials.

3. Parents are not coaches; the players should receive their directions only
from the coaching staff on the pool deck, not from parents in the stands. The
coaching staff is giving directions which will enhance the entire team (not
just one child). Parents cheer for the team/players and don't yell out any
directions.

4. Parents are expected to have rides available for their children at the time
that practices and games are scheduled. Parents need to understand that
part of the mission of the coaches is to help the players develop into mature,
responsible young men and women. Therefore, it is the responsibility of
players to communicate directly with coaches when issues arise.

5. Decisions about playing time, travel teams, and all other water polo related
matters are made exclusively by the coaching staff and are not open to
debate, discussion, or negotiation with parents. A player should feel free to
discuss his/her status with the coaches at an appropriate time.

6. Parents are expected to get their children to all practices and games on
time. If you cannot be on time, be early!

7. No player will be allowed to participate in any practice or game unless
he/she is registered with the club. All club dues must be paid in full in order
for a player to be allowed to enter the water.

July 7th Due Date

The following are paid and will be playing in our August tournament:
For Masters:
Rob Wills - Robert Wills - Magee - Louie - Vaune - Tony - Mark St John

For Club:
Brendan - Steven Kassinger

Everyone has till July 7th to commit and pay!!

Kearns - Make Overs

Zach - and his team took 3rd place - Zach's new hair style was much improved.
Gabby - and her team took 2nd place - Gabby took a shower and the team wore shower caps.
Josh and his all male team took 1st place - there were no females on this team so they did not have anything to work with - so they went to the front desk and got a stapler and tape - too funny

Kearns Results

Great Weekend... Top 2 Things I am most proud of:

1. The hotel staff said they have many teams/groups stay in their hotel and we are the best!! This says so much about our team!

2. On Sunday after the scrimmages with players from Utah and Colorado the coaches from Colorado told me how much they enjoyed coaching the Vegas players... very respectful and knew the game.

Other great moments at the tournament:

-how much our B team improved with each game!! Great Job! Take what you learned from Kearns and work hard in workouts to keep improving.

-A's In the Gold Medal game, second quarter how intense you came out, when they got physical you did not just sink.

Great job, I really enjoyed this weekend!!!

Tournaments

In recent Tournaments we have fallen short on players who said they will attend and then do not attend after cost have been figured out, leaving us short on playes and money to pay our bills. Because this has become an on going problem I am now going to collect a non refundable deposit when asking if you are going to attend the tournament. If you attend, your deposit will go toward the cost of the tournament, if you do not attend you will lose your deposit. And if you do not turn in your deposit by the due date you will be charged a late penalty 10-20% of the total cost (at least $20 and not more than $100). Also when signing up for the tournaments you MUST let me know you are coming late or leaving early.

For our Summer Tournament August 15 - 16th (Sat and Sunday) I need to know if you will attend, Your total cost of $25 will be collect on or before July 7th (7/7). This is for all Masters (planning on having 3 teams - A and B in the Open and a C in the "B" Division). We will also enter our older club players in the "B" Division with: Hunter, Max, Brenden, Zach, Eleanor, Dr Phil, Gabby, Josh, Connor, Adam, Ashton, Steven Kass.

Sorry - no more nice guy - this has not been fair to the team, we have been short paying for tournaments and have had to take from our fundraisers to pay the bills.

$25 is due on or before July 7th (7/7)!!

Masters Nationals

Great weekend of Water Polo!!! Our men's 20 and 30 teams did a great job! Much improved play!! We have been working on three things this past month:

1. Not turning the ball over by making bad passes and taking shot that feed the other teams counter attack..... We even dumped the ball.... Edwin even dumped the ball.

2. Our 6 on 5 last month in San Diego was something like 1/20... and at National we were much improved, even when we missed they were the shots we should have taken!!! In fact the game the 30's won was on a 6 on 5... drew the kickout on the counter attack - time out, we put the right people in the correct spots and scored with less than a minute to play.

3. The Art of War - making the other team think we are going to do one thing but strike in another spot.

Our women: Vaune took home one gold in the 50's and a bronze in the 40's. Lee played great!! She was a real factor in the games, she played with Vaune on the 40's and also won the Bronze... I think she was holding the famous Maureen on their last second play trying to tied the score.

Erin and Carrie played for Canada's Splash and did well, both were stars on their teams. Erin played in the 20's and Carrie played in the 20's and 30's.
Dandy's mom had a BBQ for the entire team Sat night... it was great food and we all had fun just hanging out together. After the BBQ we still had time to spend some time at the Social sponsored by the tournament... at our hotel.

I was very happy with our progress!! But we do need to swim more!!! We just don't have the pool space and time at workouts, so if you can get in and swim on your own it will really help every one's water polo.

Did You See Kobe

We have been talking about looking like a shooter and then making a pass or looking like you are going to shoot in the left corner and then shoot to the right corner.

DID YOU SEE KOBE IN TONIGHT'S 5TH GAME: IN THE 4TH QUARTER - HE GOT THE BALL LOOKED LIKE HE WAS GOING TO SHOOT THE BALL FROM OUTSIDE, HE JUMPED IN THE AIR, GOT THE BALL UP OVER HIS HEAD, AND THEN MADE A PASS TO ODOM WHO WAS UNDER THE BASKET. ODOM GOT THE BALL, PUT THE BALL IN THE BASKET AND WAS FOULED FOR A 3 POINT PLAY!! NOW THAT'S WHAT I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT - don't write letters to the defense telling them what you are going to do. Don't play with blinders on!! BE A DOUBLE THREAT - BE A KOBE!!!

High School Swimming

Saturday I had a short talk with the older age group players. The point I wanted to make regarding swimming and water polo is:

1. The swim coaches let the swimmers miss swim workouts because they are swimming on a team, so these swimmers do not have to swim for 2.5 hours and then turn around and swim another 2 hours with their club swim team. I have concerns our water polo players are not given the same set of rules and they will have to swim with the high school swim team for 2.5 hours and then turn around and workout 2 hour for water polo. Not only will they be tired they will not have time to do homework and everything is going to suffer.

2. I began our talk on Saturday about how I understand that High School Swimming is important to each of you because this is a way to get a swimming Letter. Also a time to be with friends from school. I totally understand and said this several times during the talk.

3. I also said I would hate to see them miss workouts for swimming, mainly Zach... because he was the only player giving up workouts (Masters) to swim. Thinking he needed the credits for next year. Adam and several players have me sign a form taking them out of a P.E. class and they receive the credit like they were on the team.

From what I am hearing back the kids got the wrong impression and think they cannot swim on the swim team..... I never said that and never would!!! I did say high school swimming is during the same time period before ODP's and it will hurt your chances of moving your polo forward.

Parents if you have questions - Please come talk to me!!!

Great Job Everyone

Just wanted to Thank everyone on the team (players - parents and spouses) - on the drive home tonight I was thinking about the Master Festival - the up coming tournament we are hosting in March, about the San Diego Tournament for our men's masters team and about the April tournament our women (and club girls) will be playing in.

How far we have come in these past few years and the future of our team looks so bright. I can hardly wait. There are so many players and parents who have helped out,,,,,, i.e. Friday they had the baby goals at the Festival and within mins we had a truck and got the correct goals at the MGP.

A special Thanks to Tony who has helped me so much.... Thank You Tony!!! The other special Thanks is to Jake, boy are we going to miss him!!!

The masters have improved so much - I look back at the 1st game we played at ASU and we did not play that well... that night I could not sleep thinking "Did I teach them anything" and now I look at our team and we have come so far... our team now could beat the TVH team by 10 goals. I look back at our club team and remember the kids in their suits and caps on 1 hours before their game time and no place to warm up and stayed in their suit at 7 am in the cold. And look at us now!!!

What is even more important look where we are headed!!! .... where are we headed?

How about going to Brasil in August 2010? !!!! ??? !!!! Gives everyone 18 months to plan and save. "don't say no it cost too much" Plan and save.... if your entire family can not go - that is OK we will watch and take care of your kids.... or spouses we will watch and take care of your husband/wife. Let's Do it....

I have written the coaches in Brasil .... they will set something up for us. Trip of a lifetime!!!!

New Team Site

Very soon I will not be posting on this site. Everyone needs to sign up on:

www.athleonsport.com - create an account and join our team by searching for our team name. Our add code is: TVH

This is a great site - you can check it out daily - I have begun a playbook online which all our members can study... but the best part is I can email everyone with updates and if you wish when I sent out messages you can get it on your phone (TEXT). So, if the pool calls me and said "The pool is closed tonight" and this comes at 6 pm I can text everyone.

Please sign up today.
