May 14th - Friday 6 pm vs Newport (very good team) be at the Pool 5 pm - please don't be late!!! Begin to think about Defense now!!! We force our offense we are going to get beat on the counter!!

May 15th - Saturday 8:30 am vs Solana Beach - 8 am on pool deck!! We will have two more games on Saturday.

May 16th - Sunday - depends on win lost record - first game begin at 10:30 am and we should be over by 1 pm.

The Women's NCAA National Championships are be played at San Diego State if you want to go watch a few games. There is an admission fee.

Fireworks Fund-raiser

Hello Team Vegas/Henderson members,

It looks like our request to operate a fireworks booth has been accepted by Phantom Fireworks. This will be a great opportunity for our members to raise up to $4000 each year for the team fund. If everyone donates a few hours of their time during the 4th of July week we will be successful with minimal effort.

Phantom will be contacting me soon with possible locations to choose from for our booth. The charge for booth locations is pricey and is the largest line-item cost of the fund-raiser. However, if we secure our own booth location free of charge we will reduce our costs, and in-turn increase our profit. If you know of a place in Henderson for our booth location without cost please let me know.

The key to our success will be "pre-sales". Sometime before July Phantom will be giving me order forms which I will be giving to team members to generate sales from family and friends.

USA Water Polo Academic All-American

A USA Water Polo Academic All-American is a student-athlete who has a grade point average of 3.6 or higher, has competed in a USA Water Polo national event during the 2009-2010 school year, and is a current USA Water Polo Member.

Eligibility

1. Must have completed 10th, 11th, or 12th grade during Spring of 2010.

2. Be a current USA Water Polo member.

3. Competed in a USA Water Polo National Event or National Event Qualifier. Events listed below.

4. Must have a 3.6 grade point average on a 4.0 scale (weighted) for entire 2009-2010 academic year.

5. GPA for academic subjects: History/Social Science, English, Mathematics, Laboratory Science, Foreign Language Arts – Visual/Performing and Computer Science.

Required Materials

1. A completed form

2. An official transcript with the official seal for the ENTIRE (2009-2010) academic year is required, faxes will NOT be accepted. Transcripts may be mailed along with the application or sent separately from the school. Materials will not be returned.

3. A completed event verification form.*

Kearns and Junior Olympics

We are gearing up for the summer with: Kearns tournament June 24 - 27th (Leave Thurs - late afternoon game - leave Sunday early afternoon) and Junior Olympics. Junior Olympics will be held in Southern California (Commerce way, not Orange County way). Boys July 31 to Aug 3rd and Girls and 10's Aug 5 to Aug 8th.

Kearns we are planning on taking our 12's and up... they do not offer at 10 & Under division (we will find the 10's a tournament before JO's). Junior Olympics we are planning on taking a team in every division and will include players from other clubs to help fill out our team.

We need help from a few parents to help organize these events. If you are interest please let me know: tweetwo@cox.net.

We will end the summer program with hosting our Masters and Surf's Summer Slam - August 14-15th.

Olympic Development Program

Congratulation Robert Wills, Tony Chanove and Louie Bejarano! Our coaches have been hired by United States Water Polo as the Mountain Zone ODP Coaches: Robert is the Head Coach for the Boys Level 1 (8th Grade and Under), Tony and Louie will be coaching the Boys Level 3 (11th and 10th Grade).

Bill Carter from Utah has been hired to assist Robert with the Level 1 Team. Dan Kahl from Reno is the Head coach for the Level 2 (9th Grade) boys team. Not sure who has been hired on the Girls side yet.

If you are presently in ODP you will not have to tryout again, If you are returning to ODP after a year or longer absent you will have to tryout again. For those who are interested in doing ODP please go to: usawaterpolo.com - click on the ODP ion and read about the program. I highly recommend this program as this is a true pipeline to our USA Olympic Team. Before you make this decision I would like to set up a meeting with at least one parent and your child.

It was too late to get park space for Easter Egg hunt on Sat. So we are going to have our Easter Candy Hunt at workout tonight April 2nd - Friday at Heritage - normal workout times.

UNLV will be closed. Workouts have been moved for these two days at Heritage from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Team Raffle

TVH 50/50 Raffle Fundraiser 

What: TVH will be selling raffle tickets for a 50/50 raffle. The winner of the
raffle will get half or 50% of what we sell. We hope to sell at least 1000
tickets. So, for example the winner would get $500 and TVH would get $500.

When: Tuesday, March 30th bring $25 to get your tickets or Wednesday, March 31st
for Masters. You then resell them for $1 each to remake your money.

April 13th all your ticket stubs must be turned in. If not received by then they
will not be in the drawing.
April 17th drawing will be held and winner announced.
*Winner need not be present to win

Each player must sell at least 25 tickets. See Colleen, Cheryl or Rob to get
more.
                                                             
TVH player who sells the most tickets will win a $25 prize.

Results from Irvine

Everyone came back with a tan and more experience from the weekend. Oh yeah and a great time. It was fun watching the kids get so excited just sit with each other at meal times, being able to walk to the pool together, you felt their excitement and their special bond with each of their teammates.

Our 14 & Under boys (plus Santana and Mary) had two very hard games in their bracket, their 1st game they made so many mistakes and took good shot selection but bad placement shots. Their second game they played better but lost both games on Sat. Sunday they played two more games and won both their games and placed 7th.

The 12 & Under boys (plus Hannah, Laura, Al) won both their games on Sat against the Anteaters (Former Newport players) and CHAWP's which put our team in the top three. Games on Sunday: We played Los Al and Orange County. We lost both games but played a great game against Orange County and the team took home the Third place Trophy.

The little ones: 10 & Under Mixed as usual was awesome. They won both their games on Sat which put them into the top three and won all their games on Sunday... taking home the First Place Trophy.

Here are my selections for most improved from this tournament: 14's: Noland and Derek 12's: Andre and Sky 10's: Molly as goalie, Aaron on defense, Mia and Chloe getting aggressive.

Things teams will be working on: 10's body position on defense. 12's legs, head up, catching and passing. 14's playing with more intensity.

More Info on Mark - Please Read

Hello all,

As many of you know, Mark St. John has been in court these past couple weeks in litigation with the trucking company that ran over his leg 3 ½ years ago. Closing arguments are being held tomorrow morning, Wednesday, 03-03-10, beginning at 10:30am, and should last a couple hours. What happens tomorrow will be a pivotal day in Mark’s life and one that he will never forget. I cannot stress enough that without question tomorrow will be one of the most important days in Mark’s life. That said, I am asking for all of Mark’s friends (all of you), spouses, significant others, and other friends of yours to PLEASE make the time to support Mark by being present in the courtroom tomorrow during closing remarks. Our goal is to pack the courtroom so much that we will need to occupy the hallway seats outside the courtroom also! This will show two things: it will send a positive message to the jury that Mark has an overwhelming deal of support, and more importantly 2) it will show Mark how much we care about him and support him in his battle to hold the trucking company accountable for his injuries.

The address to the courtroom is 330 S. 3rd street, 11th floor, courtroom 25. The building is on the NW corner of Lewis and 3rd street. The bottom floor (at street level) has a restaurant called "Courthouse Bar and Grill". Entrance to the elevators is an automatic sliding door left of the restaurant entrance. People should try and get at the courthouse by 10:00 to 10:15 for a seat and to get through screening. Bring money for parking or park at one of the casino's and walk (allow extra time for this). If we are successful and get enough people to fill the courtroom, overflow friends/family should occupy the chairs in the hallway outside the courtroom door. Be prepared to be there a couple hours (bring a book/ipod/etc in case waiting in hallway).

Mark's lawyer is going to deliver his closing statement tomorrow March 3rd, 2010 at 10:30 am and we as Mark's teammates/coach should show our support and fill the court room.

TruWest Orange County Cup

There is a tournament for our younger players - March 19, 20, 21, 2010 in Irvine. Age groups 14 & Under for Boys and Girls (age determination is age as of midnight, Friday March 19th, 2010).

Without knowing how many players going I do not have the exact amount for each player... Let me guess at $80-$90 per player - plus Hotel, meals, ground. Please let me know if you can attend no later than March 1st - Monday!!!

Parents Meeting

Recently I have been asked questions on what parents can do to help their kids in the sport - about colleges - about the sport itself - what ODP is all about - etc. I would like to hold a meeting with parents on Saturday March 13th from 12:30 pm to ? at the Heritage Pool to answer your questions.

We will also cover our up coming calendar - tournaments - Junior Olympics. This meeting is very important to the growth of your child development in the sport, please every parent attend.

The Heritage Pool will be closed on Monday, Tue, Wed and Thur - the may be open on Friday..check the blog. As of now we will have workout on Sat 1-5 pm at Heritage. Waves 1-2:15 pm Rapids/Surf 2:15-3:45 Masters 3:30-5 pm (3:30-45 warm up in outside lanes).

I've been trying to get this out for the blog with all that's going on
between work and the house...

I wanted to thank you and everyone that helped us meet the bank
requirement of having the house completed to a certain percentage. We
met the goal two weeks before we needed and it was enough to have them
grant us the extension needed.

I attached a couple pictures of the girls at the house at night (we made
them a bed on the floor so they can watch DVD's while we work), and a
picture of the stairs I tiled. We're almost done with the tile, septic
is done, almost all the fixtures are in, the island has a granite top
etc....All's that's left is to stain floors, all a bit more railing and
landscape.

Thanks again to all the parents and players that gave us a helping
hand...especially Mary who just kept showing up on the weekends, Rob
Wills who did the same when he already has so much going on and Dustin
who helped me run control wiring to commission the A/C system. We
couldn't have done it without the team!!!! We're looking forward to the
summer parties.

No Workout Monday

No Workout Monday at Heritage or UNLV... Have a great long weekend! Attendance has been poor this week, if this continues we will cut back on the # of days and hours we workout. I am not going to go to the pool to coach 3 players for two hours.

Beginning in March Whitney pool will be closing at 8 pm so we are losing 1 hour already and if attendance continues to be poor I will cut back on the hours at Heritage or give our pool time to the swim team!!

Today, Monday Feb 8th we are beginning our Water Polo Conditioning Workouts. Open to player who know how to: swim circles, understand sent offs, can read the clock for send offs, to get your times for each swim and who can swim from 2,000 to 4,000 yards.

Workout Times at Heritage:
Monday - Wed - Friday Conditioning 4-6 pm
Tuesday - Thurs - Surf's only

After Conditioning workout I will take: Max, Brendan, Zach and Mark to Masters.
Tuesday and Thursday after our workout at Heritage surf's will go to Whitney to work on basic skills and shooting.

Hello everyone,

As most of you all know, my oldest brother, Ray, who lives in Oklahoma, was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. He underwent surgery last month to remove a portion of his colon. The doctors have also discovered tumors on his liver, intestines and lungs, which indicate that the cancer has spread. He has a very tough road ahead. In order to improve his living conditions while he is fighting this illness, my wife, Pat, opened an account to raise money to assist Ray in replacing his unhealthy 40 year old mobile home with a newer, healthier home. After I learned of my wife’s efforts, and of the donations the account received, I tried to personally thank everyone who donated to the fund. I know I must have missed some people which brings me to the purpose of this blog post.

On behalf of my brother, Pat and I want to thank you all from the bottom of hearts. Your generosity and support for someone you’ve never met is overwhelming and I can’t express how appreciative we are. I feel lucky to have people like you all in my life.

Girls had a great time in San Diego. They called me while I was in LA for the ODP summit - I told them the only rules they had were: Stay up late and have fun!! Laura had a dance off with one of the players on San Diego University players on deck.

Team Vegas/Henderson - Great Job!! Heard our table/booth made the other sports look silly!! We impressed all the VIP's - Mayor, Diane Titus and everyone who came to the Opening. Good Job!! Thank You everyone for representing our sport and our Team!

Jan 30th - Sat all club players be at the Heritage Pool at 10:00 am. Bring your team suit and wear a Team Vegas T-shirt or sweats and a towel, you may be getting in the water to demonstrate how the game is played. I am not sure what time you will be in the water. Vaune will be there and as the coach (Tony, Robert, Louie, Joe and I will be in LA for an ODP Summit meeting - and Mark is also in LA, his uncle just got a shoulder replacement). Workout on Sat will be at Whitney regular time.

TVH take home the Gold

Congrats to the Masters for another Gold performance. We got lucky and the rain stopped just before the tournament began, it was a very nice weekend in the sun.

We beat ASU 7-6, we were behind the entire game till the last min.. great defense in the fourth was the key and a little help from Gary! Second game against New Mexico we won by 3 goals..going into the 4th we were up by 6 or 7 goals and did not control the game clock and we were not very smart on defense. They came back and could have beaten us. Third game of the day was against the Scottsdale "B" team played well and won by 10 goals (heard the Scottsdale players had bets going, over and under 12 goals) They were great guys and gals.

Drew (our former TVH player - who is now coaching the Scottsdale Team) had a bbq for all the teams at his house. Awesome big burgers - hot dogs - chips - dip and light beer.. Thanks Drew.

Sunday we played Scottsdale "A" and we started the 1st half shooting into the sun and Marcus was in the cage facing the sun and could not see.. to top all this off the pool was foggy and we were white caps. First half it was close, we did not press the outside so they made almost everything they put up if they were not pressed. Then we switched ends and by then the sun and fog were not a big factor and only had 1 goal scored against us and that was a 5 mt (via Gary's Gift to the host team). In the Gold Game we were matched up with ASU again, this time as usual they had new players from other teams playing against us. We came out with 3 quick goals and they could not rebound and we beat them by 4 goals.

I heard one of our players saying we were 15-0 in Arizona... this is not a stat we should be keeping track of... we should be looking at stat's like: 1st tournament 30 plus turn overs - 2nd tournament 10 turnovers - 3rd tournament 20 turnovers. We should and are proud of that record but the real goal here is to keep improving as players, coaches and as a team.

Congrats: Marcus, Peter, Jacint, Cody, Edwin, Max, Ben, Thor, Robert, Joe and Louie.

Dear Sandy:

The 12th annual SDSU Aztec Alumni water polo game is set to take place Saturday January 30th at noon at the beautiful SDSU Aztec Aquaplex.

As we move into the second decade of the new millenium, we would like to give special recognition to the 2000 Aztec Water Polo team, as we begin a new decade of excellence for our program. Stay tuned as we will also honor an "all-decade" team voted on and selected by SDSU alumni and friends.

The 2000 team survived Y2K, and everyone managed to get through college without a cell phone. We traveled with walkie talkies to communicate between vans, and found our destinations with old fashioned maps. We played home games at Bud Kearns Municipal Pool in Balboa Park, where every game was a standing room only crowd (no bleachers), and the locker room had that nice open air feel (no roof).

Our overall record was 18-16, with a 4-5 record in the MPSF. We placed 5th out of 10 teams at the MPSF championships hosted by San Jose State, and qualified for the Collegiate National Championships (pre-NCAA sponsored championship)hosted by Indiana University, where we placed 6th out of 16 teams.

Co-Captains Larisa Baltgalvis and Curran Teigan were named to the 2000 Collegiate Water Polo Association All-American team for their outstanding play during the season. Larisa's career mark of 235 goals remains #2 on the all-time record board, and Curran's 904 career saves remains #1 all-time for goal keeper saves. These enduring marks have inspired many great Aztec players who have followed in their footsteps.

We've come a long way since 2000, and we hope you will be able to join us and share your memories of Aztec Water Polo at our beautiful home pool, the Aztec Aquaplex on January 30th at noon.

I don't think I need too much. It's a pretty big base with many amenities,

comfort food in the desert, read: fattening and starchy, haha:P Don't feel
the need to rush to the post office though.

Security is very tight at the facility so please be prepared to show photo I.D. when entering the building. Help Magee

One of our members need our help... he is building his own home and if the house is not at least 80% done by the end of the month he will lose the home, which is about 70% done.

Thank you to all the parents who helped house all the ODP kids this weekend. I hope your experience was as good as mine. Your help transporting these kids back and forth was much appreciated. I don't think I had to mention on time this whole weekend.

Ready for the warmth - we are at UNLV indoors begin this Monday. Jim (UNLV) swim coach got new goals (2 floaters and 2 stand up cages) the bulk head is not in yet so will need to take out all lanes lines (53 mts worth of lane line) set up the goals one on the dive board side and can hook or tie to the wall. We will need to rope the other goal on the side to something on the side lines.

Please come at least 30 mins early to help set up our new goals and figure how we are going to put in the goals.
