Mark's 4th Operation

Mark had his 4th operation late this afternoon - as you know you cannot eat or drink before surgery - He was begging for food (guess it is a good sign he is eating again). Everything went great - in fact they cover (skin graft) his entire leg, foot - everything!!!!

I think he will be OK to have visitors again Sunday.... if you want to bring him anything bring him bottle water, a six pack! (his mom has been bring him 2-3 bottles everyday) - no flowers! Again don't ask him how the accident happened... make sure while you are there he is doing his exercise - at least working his arms if he can't move his leg yet!!! Room 443

Whitney Pool - Closed - Sat MGP

The pool closed today (Thur) because of a gas leak, they had to shut the gas off and fix the leak. For those came - the little guys did some dryland and we talked about rules. The older players we talked about how much everyone has improved - begin to set goals of attendance - playing water polo in college - Older boys and girls going to JO's.

Just got a call today (Friday) they can't fix the leak till Tuesday or Wed - so we are back at the Multi Gen Pool:
Sat: 1-2:30 pm Club
2-4 pm Masters

Tuesday MGP Everyone 6:30-8 pm

Will let you know about Thursday workout location.

By request we will not workout on Oct 31st - it is Nevada Day and Candy Day!!

Drivers for the LV Marathon

Rob Wills has made contact with the Las Vegas Marathon and they have agreed to let our team (Club and Masters) drive all 30 trucks. This is going to be a great fund raiser for the team - we will make $3,000.00 for one day's work. Each driver will drive a U-Haul truck to a watering/aid stationing along the running route. The truck will be loaded for you and unloaded by the group of people working each watering/aid station. You and your partner will begin at 3-4 am and finish when all the runners have pasted your station and return your truck. More info will following - what you need to do now is:

1. Fill out the drivers form - RETURN TO ROB OR SANDY BY SATURDAY OCT. 14TH

University of Arizona Tournament

Players: Rob & Matt Goalies - Vaune, Magee,Brad, Drew, Tony, Matt Jr., Edwin, Thor, Robert, Jenny & Foley.

Results: Friday night we played against University of Arizona "B" 16 -4 won
Sat am - Clayton University 16-11 lost
pm - University of Arizona "A: won by 1 goal
Sun am - Chawp's for 5th place: won by 2 goals

Things we need to work on:
1. We all need more conditioning - our team is now at a higher level of skill, game knowledge and our conditioning needs to catch up to our skill and knowledge to reach the next level. So our conditioning will be increase on Monday's and Wednesday!!
2. Work on the end of the game when we need a goal and when we need to control the ball.

I thought we played OK in all but the lost to Clayton - poor defense (anytime a team can score 16 goals is pretty bad). With that lost the best we could do was 5th - which we placed because Clayton the best team in the tournament beat us. The Chawps and Monsoon team joined during the tournament and ended up playing Clayton - losing by 7 goals..... so if the seeding were different we could have easily been the 2nd best team.

We did miss: Jacint, Roger and Joe - speed!!!!!!! esp in that 30 meter pool.

Mark's Classroom

Today 10/5, Tere Ma came to the hospital to explain in layman's terms to Mark, Mary and I so we could understand what happened to Mark's leg and foot. You could see the stress leave Mark and Mary when their questions were answered - 30 days without really knowing what happened was stressful. Tere also told him the three major points for a quick recovery:

1. Attitude - be positive - take it one day at a time - even when/if he has a bad day find something positive about the day or situation.

2. PT and OT is very important for his recovery (even more important then his food intake). Mark has to do his exercises and do them all the time!!! Mark's history tells me this is going to be the hardest part for him.. he does not understand the difference between good pain (getting stronger) - bad pain (hurting the injury). History also tells me Mark will work really hard for a few days/weeks then slack off for a few days/weeks. His PT and OT will work him and we will stay on top of this too.

3. Support - family, friends - being there for Mark!!!! This can come in forms of - emails - cards - visits when he can have visitors. There have been several players/parents asking if there is anything the team can do for Mark? Right now send him emails: mark2polo@aol.com or send him cards/notes/letters at:

Mark St. John
7050 Ovation Way
Las Vegas NV 89119

In no time Mark will be back on the deck coaching the club players - and back in the water tooling and schooling everyone at 2 meters.
