Dues

It is mid month and there are still players who have not paid dues - I am not going to list the 18 players from Masters who have not paid - but I am thinking about collecting dues quarterly instead of hunting down players every month. This is not fun chasing players I am a coach not a bill collector!!!!!!

Club I will be checking who has paid this month - those who have not bring goggles to the workouts next week.

Murrieta Results

Fun Fun Weekend in the Sun!!! Great Games!!! Awesome Improvement!!! Fun - what more can we ask for?

Shannon, Elizabeth, Jenny, Chandler, Vaune, Elis Brooks, Alex played on Sat along with a few former National Team Players (over 40) played with Team Vegas. The 1st game was pretty easy, we won playing a good pressing defense. The 2nd game was very close with our Hall of Famer Vaune doing some fancy work at two meters. Vaune was playing with players she played with on the National Team and they did not lose the connection - they knew where to put the ball, when to put the ball at two meters, it was really nice to. The score was very close but with 7 second the ball was given to Vaune at set it took Vaune about 3 seconds with the ball to work her magic and scored the winning goal.

The third game was also very close but we ran out of gas in their 3rd game of the day... and lost by 1 goal. After the games the team went to lunch together and our players got to talk to the former national team players - listen to some old funny stories.

The men also did a great job - like the women's game our 1st game was pretty easy again with a pressing defense. Our 2nd game was a pick up game after a team did not show up - this was a close game (but knowing the next game was against the best team in the tournament we played the starters in short spans of time) . We beat the team by 1 goals. We played the very next game (5 min rest) against the #1 seeded team, we started off with great defense and we up 6 - 2. Then our defense broke down and it was all down hill from there. Miramar scored the next 4 goals and went up by 1.... then it was back and forth, at one point they were up by 4 goals, Joe made some great shots after begin fouled and they beat us by 2 goals 14-12. Our last game we played our defensive game plan and the other team was only able to score 1 goal. There was improvement by all.

I can not remember when I have had more fun coaching then this past weekend!! Thank You Team!!!

Kearns - Revisited

After reading my last post about Kearns, I did not write about some of our players in a positive way. The 18 & Under player I just listed their names but in fact: Sarah took several strides to improve her game, she was very intense which made her counter attacks awesome and made her defense 110% more agressive. Alex general knowledge of the game improved and showed in every area of the game. Eric's determination was very focused which lead to Eric playing a good game on both ends of the pool. Elliott's leadership and intensity is always a welcome presents with our team.

Jeff's comment in the last post may not be read as a positive comment but to his teammates and coach we were proud of Jeff for being able to play in the field the entire Gold Medal Game after being sick the weekend. Jeff also went in to set at two meters, made great passes out and tooks some well timed shots from two meters which after setting two meters means having to swim all the way back to the other end. Jeff, Great team work!!!

I looked at the video Matt Sr took - at the end of the game Andrew got his 3rd major with 4 seconds left in the game - after reviewing Andrew's action that was such a smart kick out - Andrew interfered with the free throw because he was going to shoot the ball and with only 4 seconds left in the game they could not get off another shot.

Kearns - Results

With exactly 7 players our 16 & unders boys (and 1 girl) won the 9th Annual Kearns Invitational Water Polo Tournametnt:

Round Robin:

Game 1: TVH 13 vs Colorado O
Game 2: TVH 17 vs Hunter 2
Game 3: TVH 6 vs Kearns 6
Game 4: TVH 10 vs New Mexico 2

Gold Medal Game: TVH vs Kearns

Last year Kearns beat TVH by a score of 9-4 - eight months later TVH beats Kearns by a score of 9-6. It was scary when Elizabeth got her 2nd major foul mid way in the 3rd quarter (1 more and we would have to play a man down - and David our goalie was playing to awesome to even think of switching him in the field). The team really pulled together and took it upon themselves to make sure Elizabeth would not be put in a position to get her 3rd major foul. TVH scored the 1st goal and never looked back. Like I said before David played great! Matt made some awesome outside shots! Jake as usually was up on counters! Andrew was our key defensive player! Elizabeth played well under a stressful (to say the least) situation!!!!!!!!! Jeff sucked it up and played the entire game without asking to go into the goal for rest - big step for Jeff!!!! Who am I missing? Oh yeah Ryan our hero!! Ryan was in the hospital on Monday - Tuesday and part of Wednesday with heat stroke. Ryan's dad (Jeffrey) drove Ryan up on Thursday night and got into Kearns at 1 am and played 9 games (5 of which he did not get a sub) - WOW!!! And to top this off he played great - in fact some of his best water polo!! Really proud of this team!!! We entered in the 15 & under division at the last min - sure glad we did.

We also entered in the 18 & under Boys division - considering we had 3 femals all under 17 years, 5 boys 14 years old, 3 boys 16 years and two boys 17 years old we did pretty good!!! We placed 6th - but more important the players as individuals and as a team took big steps into the next level of play!! This team was made up of the 7 players above and: Alex, Sarah, Erik and Elliott.

A big thanks to Matt Sr and Margie for driving up the kids and helping me watch over the players!!
