Re-entry Rules
Please read the following!! I am tired of explain this over and over!! Joe, thanks for the copy!
WP 21.2 The excluded player shall move to the re-entry area nearest to the player’s own goal line without leaving the water. An excluded player who leaves the water (other than following the entry of a substitute) shall be deemed guilty of an offence under WP 21.10 (Misconduct).
[Note. An excluded player (including any player excluded under the Rules for the remainder of the game) shall remain in the water and move (which may include swimming underwater) to the re-entry position nearest to the player’s own goal line without interfering with the play. The player may swim from the field of play at any point on the goal line and may swim behind the goal to reach the re-entry area provided the player does not interfere with the alignment of the goal.
On reaching the re-entry area, the excluded player shall be required to visibly rise to the surface of the water before the player (or a substitute) shall be permitted to re-enter in accordance with the Rules. However, it shall not be necessary for the excluded player to then remain in the re-entry area to await the arrival of an intended substitute.]
WP 21.3 The excluded player or a substitute shall be permitted to re-enter the field of play after the earliest occurrence of one of the following:
· when 20 seconds of actual play have elapsed, at which time the secretary shall raise the appropriate flag provided that the excluded player has reached the re-entry area in accordance with the Rules;
· when a goal has been scored;
· when the excluded player’s team has retaken possession of the ball (which means receiving control of the ball) during actual play, at which time the defensive referee shall signal re-entry by a hand signal;
· when the excluded player’s team is awarded a free throw or goal throw, the referee’s signal to award the throw qualifies as the re-entry signal, provided that the excluded player has reached the re-entry area in accordance with the Rules.
The excluded player or a substitute shall be permitted to re-enter the field of play from the re-entry area nearest to the player’s own goal line, provided that:
· the player has received a signal from the secretary or a referee;
· the player shall not jump or push off from the side or wall of the pool or field of play;
· the player shall not affect the alignment of the goal;
· a substitute shall not be permitted to enter in the place of an excluded player until that player has reached the re-entry area nearest to the player’s own goal line.
After a goal has been scored an excluded player or a substitute may re-enter the field of play from any place.
NOTES
The referee will designate the re-entry area before the start of the game during the captain’s meeting. The re-entry area is located in the corner of the pool and underneath the team bench behind the goal line. For pools like Multi Gen, Whitney Ranch and UNLV in which a lane line does not connect to the goals, the re-entry area is underneath the bench in the corner of the pool and outside the field of play. Thus, an excluded player must exit the field of play by swimming underwater and not on top of the lane line to reach the re-entry area.
CONSEQUENCE OF IMPROPER RE-ENTRY
WP 21.15 For an excluded player to re-enter or a substitute to enter the field of play improperly, including:
· without having received a signal from the secretary or referee;
· from any place other than the player’s own re-entry area, except where the Rules provide for immediate substitution;
· by jumping or pushing off from the side or wall of the pool or field of play;
· by affecting the alignment of the goal.
If this offence is committed by a player of the team not in possession of the ball, the offending player shall be excluded and a penalty throw awarded to the opposing team.
If this offence is committed by a player of the team in possession of the ball, the offending player shall be excluded and a free throw awarded to the opposing team.

September - 6 on 5 Month
This month we will be covering 6 on 5 offense and defense!! I have written a few things on 6 on 5 - PLEASE read and if you don't understand ask questions out of the water!!
Basic Rules of: 6 on 5 Offense and Defesne
Offense:
1. Pass the ball – Shots to come off a pass with no fake before the shot. End of time to fake and then pass and shot.
2. No 1 to 6 passes – No 6 to 1 passes!!! Use closest top then over to 1 or 6.
3. Post moving in, out and on the Dice.
4. 1st pass must be the safest pass.
5. Get open for a Quick – don’t just set up.
6. Release for a Quick/Quick.
7. Don’t force the ball inside to the post.
8. If they force the ball inside to you, you do not have to shot the ball but you can kick the ball back out.
9. On the post – when the ball is coming to you, don’t wait for the ball – meet the ball.
Idea is to pass the ball to open up a 2 on 1 situation. Faking and faking the ball all you create is a 1 against the goalie and at least 1 to 2 field defenders!!
Defense:
1. Get your arm up before they get the ball – this is to discourage a shot, don’t let them think they can shoot the ball.
2. Don’t wave you arm – bend your arm and just forward, keep your body even (don’t tilt).
3. X1 and X3 must have a hand on the post man – don’t sit in the goal. Feet pointing on an angle towards the wall.
4. X4 and X5 cover post 1st – if 4 or 5 walk the ball in go out with an arm up, then get back to the post.
5. THE BASE NEVER MOVES!!!
6. If you man is sliding you must ask for help from top.
7. Bait passes on the top – but don’t go up each time.
8. When we stunt we all stunt and don’t stop.
9. When you get KO make sure it is you, tell everyone you are out – don’t get in the way – tell everyone when you are even again. If they forget about you ask the ref.
10. If you foul get back and everyone press.
11. Goalies will tell X1 or X3 to move: over or in.
12. Once you hand is up you never drop your hand to move out on the person with the ball… move out with your hand up.
13. Break up any passing patterns.
14. Watch the man behind you.
15. Try to guess and stunt out before they get the ball.
Now these are just the basic rules!!! This is the best part of water polo – it is like a puzzle, a chess game, trying to out wit our opponents.
Passing patterns: 6-5f-6-5f-6-3leg out shot – there is a passing pattern to open every position.
Please post your name so I know you read this - Thanks Sandy

Parent Guidelines
Team Vegas/Henderson Water Polo
Parent Code of Conduct
In order for our club to compete successfully at the highest level, it is essential to recognize that participation in the Team Vegas/Henderson is a commitment being made by entire families, not just players. Therefore, it is important that we outline our expectations for parents as well as players. Please read the following guidelines that we expect our parents to follow.
Parents are allowed to attend practices and encouraged to attend games. However, parents are expected to stay away from the side of the pool and away from the coaches during practices and games.
Parents should support the players on our teams and refrain from making disparaging remarks about or directed at any of our players, coaches, opponents, or officials. Parents must avoid any physical or verbal confrontations with the parents, coaches, and players of our club or our opponents or with the officials.
Parents are not coaches; the players should receive their directions only from the coaching staff on the pool deck, not from parents in the stands. The coaching staff is giving directions which will enhance the entire team (not just one child). Parents cheer for the team/players and don’t yell out any directions.
Parents are expected to have rides available for their children at the time that practices and games are scheduled. Parents need to understand that part of the mission of the coaches is to help the players develop into mature, responsible young men and women. Therefore, it is the responsibility of players to communicate directly with coaches when issues arise.
Decisions about playing time, travel teams, and all other water polo related matters are made exclusively by the coaching staff and are not open to debate, discussion, or negotiation with parents. A player should feel free to discuss his/her status with the coaches at an appropriate time.
Parents are expected to get their children to all practices and games on time. If you cannot be on time, be early!
No player will be allowed to participate in any practice or game unless he/she is registered with the club. All club dues must be paid in full in order for a player to be allowed to enter the water.

NEW Water Polo Rules
This is a summary of the major rules changes approved by the FINA Technical Congress. They are listed as they first appear in the Rules Changes booklet provided by FINA at the Technical Congress. These changes were approved as a package and will be in effect 15 September 2005 to 31 December 2006. If necessary, an Extraordinary Technical Water Polo Congress may be called prior to the end of that time to change these (or any) rules or, if the new rules appear to be satisfactory, the FINA Bureau may simply extend these rules until ratified at a general event such as the 2007 World Championships. (Summarized by Terence Ma; where possible, the actual wording has been maintained.) – Revised version.
1. (WP1.4) The distance between the goal lines shall not be less than 20 meters and not more than 30 meters for games played by men. The distance between the goal lines shall not be less than 20 meters and not more than 25 meters for games played by women.
2. The 4 and 7 meter lines are eliminated and a 5-meter line is created. All previous rules that applied to the 4 and 7 meter lines are adjusted to the new 5-meter line. So, for example, penalty fouls may be called inside the 5; free throws taken outside the 5 meter line for a foul committed outside the 5 meter line may be shot.
3. Markings on the side of the field of play are: RED from goal line to 2-meter line, YELLOW from the 2-meter line to the 5-meter line, and GREEN from the 5-meter line to the half-distance line.
4. (WP4.2) Caps shall be fitted with malleable ear protectors which shall be the same color as the team’s caps except that the goalkeeper may have red protectors.
5. The goalkeeper shall wear cap number 1 and the other caps shall be numbered 2 to 13. A substitute goalkeeper shall wear a red cap numbered 13.
6. The head coach of the attacking team shall be allowed to move to the 5-meter line at any time.
7. The duration of the game shall be four periods each of eight (8) minutes of actual play.
8. There shall be a two-minute interval between the first and second periods and between the third and fourth periods and a five-minute interval between the second and third periods. The teams, including the players, coaches and (team) officials, shall change ends before starting the third period and the second period of any extra time.
9. (In extra time,) there shall be two periods each of three minutes of actual play with an interval of two minutes for the teams to change ends.
10. In a shootout, if a goalkeeper is excluded during the penalty shoot out, a player from the nominated five (5) players may substitute for the goalkeeper but without the privileges of the goalkeeper; following the taking of the penalty shot, the player may be substituted by another player or alternate goalkeeper.
11. A timeout may be requested at any time, including after a goal. … If a timeout is requested, the secretary or referee shall immediately stop the game by whistle and the players shall immediately return to their respective halves of the field of play.
12. After a timeout, play shall be restarted on the whistle of the referee by the team in possession of the ball putting the ball into play on or behind the half distance line.
13. The time of possession of a ball prior to a shot is 30 seconds.
14. A goal throw shall be awarded when the entire ball has passed fully over the goal line excluding between the goal posts and underneath the crossbar, having last been touched by any player other than the goalkeeper of the defending team.
15. The goal throw shall be taken by the defending goalkeeper or any member of the defending team from anywhere within the 2 meter area.
16. A corner throw shall be awarded when … last touched by the goalkeeper of the defending team or when a defending player deliberately sends the ball over the goal line.
17. It shall be an exclusion foul to attempt to play or block a shot with two hands outside the 5-meter area.
18. (21.9) To be guilty of misconduct, including the use of unacceptable language, violent or persistent foul play, refuse obedience to or show disrespect for a referee or official, or behavior against the spirit of the Rules and likely to bring the game into disrepute. The offending player shall be excluded from the remainder of the game, with substitution after the earliest occurrence referred to in WP 21.3.
If a member of a team commits any offence mentioned in this Rule during the interval between periods, during a time out or prior to the restart of play after his team has scored a goal, the player shall be excluded from the remainder of the game and substitution shall be permitted when, after the interval pause, the excluded player’s team has taken possession of the ball (which means receiving control of the ball), or in the other situations, after the earliest occurrence referred to in WP21.3.
19. To commit an act of brutality … The offending player shall be excluded from the remainder of the game and a penalty throw awarded to the opposing team, The offending player may be substituted when four (4) minutes of actual play have elapsed. …
In the last minute of the game, the referees may delay declaring a brutality offence until the next change of possession.
This Rule shall also apply if an act of brutality occurs during the intervals between periods and a penalty throw shall be awarded. These provisions shall not apply, however, before the game has actually commenced.
20. In the case of a double exclusion, both players shall be excluded and the team in attack maintain possession of the ball.
